Feb. 23, 2013
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The BC softball team, for the second day in a row, split a doubleheader at the Frost Classic to start the 2013 season at 2-2.
The Eagles carried a 6-3 lead heading to the last of the seventh against Ohio University but fell victims to a walk-off homer en route to an 8-6 loss in game one.
Maria Pandolfo and Nicole Koszowski recorded their first home runs of the season to stake BC to the lead. Andrea Filler (1-1), pitching in her second consecutive game, went 6.1 innings and allowed seven earned runs with three strikeouts.
The Bobcats cut the BC lead to 6-5 in the seventh before Caitlin Colvin’s walk-off three-run homer gave Ohio the win.
In game two, BC rebounded for a decisive 6-1 win over host Chattanooga led by Tory Speer’s second homer of the season in the first inning.
Chelsea Dimon pitched a gem for the Eagles – one day after being relieved without recording an out as she threw a complete game allowing only six hits and one earned run while striking out three.
The Eagles carried a 3-1 lead into the sixth inning and then exploded for three insurance runs led by Andrea Filler’s double.
The Mocs got the first two on in the seventh but Dimon shut the door to secure BC’s second victory of the season.
BC will conclude the Frost Classic against Toledo at 10 a.m. before resuming tournament play at the ESPN Citrus Classic next weekend against Longwood and Syracuse.
