Boston College will play the final regular season game against No. 10 Virginia in Charlottesville on Thursday, October 25. The game will begin at 7 p.m.
No. 21 BC (10-5-3, 4-4-1 ACC) is coming off a 1-0-1 week with a 3-2 victory over then No. 1 ranked Florida State followed by a 0-0 tie against Miami. The Eagles are led offensively by midfielder Kristen Mewis, the ACC's leading scorer with 13 goals and 11 assists. BC sophomore Stephanie McCaffrey, who is second on the team in scoring with nine goals and six assists, earned ACC Co-Player of the Week honors for her one goal and one assists performance vs. FSU.
BC vs. UVA
The Eagles lead the series against Virginia, 7-2-2. Last year, BC defeated the Cavaliers, 2-0, behind goals from Stephanie McCaffrey and Casey Morrison. This will be the sixth game in three years between the two teams as the Eagles and Cavs met in the 2009 and 2010 ACC Tournament. BC is 3-1-1 vs. the Caves in the last five meetings.
THE ACC TOURNAMENT
All the ACC teams are wrapping up regular season action on Thursday night. The quarterfinals of the ACC tournament will begin on Sunday, October 28. The top four seeds will host the games. The ACC will announce the pairings after Thursday's night results are in.
Sophomore Stephanie McCaffrey picked up a number of honors this week for her outstanding play last week. McCaffrey helped lead BC past the top-ranked Florida State with a goal and assists. She was named ACC Co-Player of the Week and was named to the CS360.Com Primetime Players list. McCaffrey, a native of Winchester, Mass., also earned the New England Soccer News Net Player of the Week honors.
Freshman Lauren Bernard leads the Eagles in minutes played with 1667. She is the only freshman to start every game. Sophomore Casey Morrison is second on the team in minutes played with 1604. Junior Zoe Lombard is third with 1600 minutes played.
Thirteen players have contributed a goal or assists this season.
Senior Kristen Mewis has notched a goal or assists in 13 of 18 games this season. She also has a career-high five game-winning goals and seven multiple-point games.
Kate McCarthy notched her fifth goal of the season in the win over FSU last week. The five goals by the junior from Longmeadow is a single-season career-high.
Senior Alexa Gaul has started every game in goal for the Eagles. She has a GAA of 1.31 and a 10-5-3 record with three shutouts.
BC is ranked No. 21 by the NSCAA polls this week. Soccer Times has BC at No. 15, while TopDrawerSoccer.com placed the Eagles at No. 23.
