Six members of the Boston College women's soccer team were named to the All-ACC Academic Team as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference today. Seniors Alaina Beyar, Julia Bouchelle, Jillian Mastroianni, Stephanie Wirth and Alyssa Pember were on the list along with sophomore Gibby Wagner and freshman Stephanie McCaffrey.
This is the second time Julia Bouchelle and Alyssa Pember have been named to the team. It is a first for Beyar, Mastroianni, Wirth, Wagner and McCaffrey.
All 11 league schools that compete in women's soccer are represented on this year's All-ACC Academic Team, which includes four student-athletes that earned 2011 All-America honors. The All-ACC Academic Team also includes 14 players that were named first- or second-team All-ACC and four members of the ACC All-Freshmen team. Four were named Academic All-America by CoSIDA/Capital One or the NSCAA, and 13 earned All-District Academic honors.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
