Freshmen Casey Morrison and Stephanie McCaffrey are two of 30 players called into training camp for the Under-20 US Women's National Team camp from Jan. 5-19 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California.
The U-20s will play two 60-minute scrimmages against Shanghai Women's Football Club of China on Jan. 12 and Jan. 18. The U.S. U-20s are preparing for qualifying for the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup which was slated for Uzbekistan, but will be moved by FIFA. A formal announcement of the new host country has not yet been made, but Japan is the front-runner. The CONCACAF Qualifying tournament, which will send three countries to the U-20 WWC, will be held from March 1-11 in Panama.
Both Morrison and McCaffrey were members of the All-ACC Freshman team this past season.
Morrison, a native of York, PA, played in 21 games, while starting 20 this season. She was a part of the defensive back line that helped the team earn 10 shutouts and have a .72 goals-against-average this past season. Morrison also had two goals and two assists for six points in her freshman campaign.
McCaffrey, a native of Winchester, MA, played in 21 games, while earning two starts. McCaffrey was the third leading scorer on the team with four goals and five assists for 13 points. She had two game-winning goals, including against ACC foe Virginia on Sept. 18.
