BC Women's Soccer Beats Georgetown 2-1
CHESTNUT HILL, Ma. - The Boston College women's soccer team improved to
2-1-0 and 1-1-0 in Big East Conference play under first year coach Alison
Foley. The Lady Eagles defeated Georgetown 2-1 today at Shea Field. With the
defeat Georgetown drops to 1-1-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in Big East play.
Scoring her second goal of the season and first of the game was sophomore Mary
Guarino at 45:30. Assisting on the play as Anne Schneider '98 who kicked the ball
in front of the Georgetown net for Guarino to head in for the score. Brandy
Manza '00 scored the eventual game winner for BC. She took a deflected pass off a
Georgetown player and pushed the ball up the right side blasting a shot past a
leaping Keisha McDonald, the Georgetown goalie.
Georgetown put a goal on the board when sophomore Laura Venner beat BC goalie
Courtney Shaefer '01 in front of the net. The goal, was only Shaefer's second
allowed this season as she finished the day with four saves. McDonald had eight
save opportunities for Georgetown.
Boston College's next game will be at Big East rival and national power house
University of Connecticut on Wednesday September 10 at 7:00 p.m. Georgetown
faces Townson State at home on September 10th, also.
