Late Goal Gives Boston College 2-1 Win at St. John's
JAMAICA, N.Y.-Mary Guarino scored with just 1:34 left in regulation to
send Boston College past St. John's, 2-1 at DaSilva Field. Guarino
stole a pass in front of the St. John's net and blasted it past St.
John's goalie Sherry Reill.
After a scoreless first half the Eagles
struck first. Brandy Manza knocked in a 10 footer to give BC a 1-0
lead at 68:12. At the 79:12 minute mark, SJU freshman Lisa Kaczmarski
was fouled in the box. The Storm was awarded a penalty kick. Fran
DeCristoforo then scored on the penalty kick to tie the game at one.
Both goalkeepers played well for their respective temas. Reill made
nine saves in the contest and BC goalie Courtney Schaffer made seven
saves.
The Red Storm drop to 4-5-0 on the season and 1-3-0 in BIG
EAST play. Three of the five St. John defeats this season have been
by one goal. The Eagles improve to 4-2-1 on the year and are 3-2 in
the BIG EAST.
