West Virginia Women's Soccer Wins It in OT
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - In the season opener for both teams, the Boston College women's soccer team was downed this afternoon 1 to 0 in overtime to West Virginia, at Shea Field. BC falls to 0-1 on the season and in the BIG EAST Conference. WV improves to 1-0 on the season and in the BIG EAST, as well.
West Virginia sophmore Danielle Turrie scored with a pass from Megan Sheehy to beat an outstreched Courtney Shaeffer, to win it for the Mountaineers. The goal came at the 4:27 mark of the first overtime.
WV Goalkeeper Stacey Adams did a an outststanding job in the net, making several diving saves to push the game into overtime. Eagle's goalie Courtney Shaffer did a good job in her first collegian start, stopping seven shots. BC outshot West Virginia 10 to 8.
Boston College has two games scheduled next week, both at home on Shea Field. On Wednesday, September 3, the Eagles take on Central Connecticut for a 4:30 p.m. start time. Then on Saturday, September 6, BC hosts BIG EAST rival Gorgetown at 1:00 p.m. Next on the schedule for West Virginia is Duquesne at home on September 3.
