Duke's Kim DeCasare had two goals as the Blue Devils defeated Boston College, 4-2, at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, North Carolina in a conference match on Sunday afternoon.
Boston College returns to Chestnut Hill after a two-game ACC road trip in which the Eagles suffered two losses. BC lost to UNC, 1-0, on Thursday night. BC is now 8-4-2 on the season and 2-3 in the ACC. Duke improved to 10-3-1 and 4-2-1 in the ACC. Boston College will need to get back in the win column as the Eagles host ACC foe Maryland on Thursday, October 11 at 7 p.m. at the Newton Soccer Field.
Senior Kristie Mewis notched her 10th goal of the season, a new career-high in the 53rd minute of the match to tie the game at 1-1. It was the Eagles first goal in two games. Stephanie McCaffrey was credited with an assist on the goal.
In the 64th minute of play, Laura Weinberg one-timed a loose ball from the corner kick. It was her 14th goal of the season.
Duke extended the lead to 3-1 on a goal by Kim DeCasare in the 74th minute of the game. Four minutes later, BC junior Kate McCarthy cut into to the lead with her fourth goal of the year. Mewis was credited with an assist.
In the 88th minute, Duke put the game away as DeCesare scored her second goal in the match.
In the first half, Boston College was outshot by Duke, 8-2. The Eagles only two shots came from Kristen Mewis and McKenzie Meehan. BC had three corners and could not capitalize. Duke had two corner kicks.
Duke's go ahead goal came in the 22nd minute off the first half when Kaitlyn Kerr notched her first goal of the season. Cassie Pecht and Gilda Doria recorded an assist on the goal.
BC was outshot, 17-8, in the match. Duke had eight shots on goal, while BC had three. The Eagles had six corners, to three for the Blue Devils.
