Women's Soccer Falls To Maryland, 2-1

The No. 4/2 Boston College women's soccer team suffered a tough 2-1 home loss to ACC foe Maryland last night at the Newton Soccer Field. Boston College is now 9-2-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the ACC, while Maryland improved to 10-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference.
After a scoreless first half, Boston College took a lead at the 61 minute mark. Freshman Patrice Vettori played a ball into the box and sophomore Kristen Mewis beat two Maryland defenders to the ball and placed it by the Terps goalkeeper Yewande Balogun. It was the BC midfielder's seventh goal of the season.
The momentum swung over to Maryland when Amy O'Sullivan pounced on a rebound in the box to tie the match at the 75 minute mark. The initial shot bounced out of BC goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni's clutch and in a scramble, O'Sullivan knocked it home for her second goal of the season.
The Terps earned three corner kicks in the final 10 minutes. The final corner kick came in the final seconds as Ashley Grove sent a hard driven ball into the box and Colleen Deegan rose above the BC defense to head it top shelf by Mastroianni with 10 seconds left in the match. It was Deegan's second goal of the season.
Boston College had a16 shots to Maryland's 14, while the Eagles held an edge in corner kicks, 5-4.
