No. 10 Women's Soccer Earns A 3-1 Win Over No. 19 BU

Boston, Mass. - Boston College sophomore Stephanie McCaffrey scored two goals to lead No. 10 Boston College past No. 19 Boston University, 3-1, on Sunday night at Nickerson Field.

BC is coming off a tough 4-3 victory over UConn on Friday night. With the win over BU, the Eagles are now 3-0-0. BU drops to 2-2-0.

Boston University struck first as Madison Clemens put away a left-footed shot into the near post for a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of the game.

McCaffrey, who earned All-ACC Rookie team honors last season, tied the game in the 28th minute of the match. McCaffrey lofted her shot over junior goalkeeper Andrea Green, who came out of the box to defend the Eagles speedster.

BC went up 2-1 when Kate McCarthy knocked home a corner kick from senior Kristen Mewis in the 57th minute.

McCaffrey put the game away in the 73rd minute when she out-hustled a defender to a loose ball and went to goal. McCaffrey ripped a shot into the top right corner for a 3-1 BC lead.

The Eagles held a 17-10 advantage in shots. BC also had eight corner kicks to three for the Terriers. BC's goalkeeper Alex Gaul made five saves, while Green had nine saves.


Game Notes:
BC will now head west as the Eagles are scheduled to play at Stanford on Friday, Aug. 31. Fans can view the game on the PAC 12 Network. The second game of this four-game road trip will be at Pacific on Sunday, Sept. 2 ... Junior Kate McCarthy has scored a goal in two straight games. It was also her first career game-winning goal ... It was the first time Stephanie McCaffrey notched two goals in a game for the Eagles ... Kristen Mewis has an assist in all three games this season. She has 29 career assists, which places her in third on the all-time assist list alongside Anne Porell '84. The win over BU gives Boston College a 14-4 record against the Terriers.
