Sophomore McKenzie Meehan scored three minutes into the game as Boston College defeated Boston University, 1-0, in front of 701 fans at the Newton Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles are now 1-1-0 and will host Ohio State on Wed. September 5 at 7 p.m. Boston University is now 1-1-0 on the season.

This was the 19th meeting between BC and BU. The Eagles now have a 14-4-1 record against the Terriers. IN the 19 games this was the ninth time the two teams had a one goal differential. BC has not lost to Bu since the 2006 season. BC is unbeaten in the last nine games against the Terriers.

The only goal came when sophomore Lauren Bernard sent a ball to McKenzie Meehan on the right side of the BU goalkeeper Andrea Green. Bernard pushed the ball to her left away from the BU defender and sent the shot into the far post for a 1-0 lead in the third minute of play.

BC held a 1-0 halftime lead and out shot BU, 6-2. Both teams had one shot on goal, while BC had two corner kicks to zero for the Terriers.

"I knew it was going to be a tough game and a close game, but did not think it would have to hold up after three minutes,'' said head coach Alison Foley of the quick goal by the Eagles. "Our thoughts at the half were to clean up with what we were doing.''

Both teams were coming off game on Friday night. BC lost in double-overtime to No. 2 Stanford, 2-1, while BU defeated Dayton, 1-0.

BU's best chance came early in the second half when Megan McGoldrick hit the post from 22 yards out. BC countered with just under 14 minute to play when McKenzie Meehan's shot from 18 yards out just went wide. Eagles forward Stephanie McCaffrey, who led the offensive attack with six shots, hit the post in the eighth minute of play.

The Eagles defense of Casey Morrison, Zoe Lombard, Lauren Bernard, Meg MacDonald and Coco Woeltz played a solid game in front of goalkeeper Jess Mickelson who posted her first career shutout.

Game Notes:

Freshman Meg MacDonald appeared in her first game on defense while Hayley Dowd saw 34 minutes of action ... Casey Morrison and Zoe Lombard played a full 90 minutes ... BC outshot BU, 14-5, in the game.
