The women's ski team continued the season this weekend at both the St. Anslem's Carnival in Gunstock, NH on Saturday and the Smith Carnival down the road at Blackwater, NH on Sunday. The lady Eagles were able to hold on to first place in the MacConnell Divison, five points ahead of Plymouth State University.
Sophomore Kelly Burgart led Saturday's giant slalom race. She finished in sixth place and was followed by fellow sophomore Hillary Weber, who placed eighth. Junior Laura Martini finished in ninth place, while senior captain Erica Reilly helped lock up first place for the day with tenth place and the fourth top ten finish for the lady Eagles. After day one, the lady Eagles found themselves sitting on top of the MacConnell Division by six points.
Day two at Blackwater's slalom race was dominated by freshman Katie Cutting. She placed second overall, the highest finish in her young career. Sophomore Alexandra Boit helped the lady Eagles by placing ninth. Hillary Weber rounded out the top ten with her tenth place finish. The lady Eagles finished third for the day, but ended the carnival in first place.
USCSA Mid-Season Alpine Rankings were released this weekend and the Eagles have found themselves ranked second nationally, only behind Sierra Nevada College. Last time the rankings were released, the Eagles were in fifth place. The women's ski team will try and stay on top of the MacConnell Division while trying to take over the number one national ranking next weekend at the BC/Brown Carnival at Wildcat Mountain in New Hampshire.
