The Boston College women's rowing team traveled away from home to compete in its second event of the year on Sunday, Oct. 28 at the Princeton Chase in Princeton, N.J.

Competing against some of the top crews in the Northeast, the Eagles entered two boats in the Women's Open 8+ and four boats in the Women's Open 4+.

In the Women's Open 8+, the Eagles' "A" and "B" entries placed 31st and 41st, respectively. Yale's "A" entry took first place, followed by Virginia's "A".

While the sun was shining overhead in Princeton, wind conditions proved to be testing. There was a tail wind for the first half of the course, which after the first turn, became a cross/head wind. The eights races were held first so the team was expecting the conditions for the second race (the fours) and was able to respond well.

Marlene O'Hara, the coxswain for the top BC boat in each event, commented, "We took a lot from the eights and made the fours effective."

In the Women's Open 4+, the Eagles' "A" boat finished the course in 17 minutes, 40 seconds, good for 11th place. BC's "C" boat also cracked the top-20, placing 19th in 18:22. The Eagles' "B" and "D" entries finished 21st and 28th, respectively. Princeton's "A" boat easily outpaced the field, finishing 48 seconds before second-place Dartmouth's "A".

Assistant coach Mac Cannady was pleased with the way the Eagles handled the difficult conditions. "The team's ability to demonstrate that kind of speed in the fours after having raced in the eights is a testament to the effort they are putting into their training."

In looking ahead to the next event, Cannady commented further on the team's effort. "It is promising to see this continued improvement. We have a few weeks to get ready for our last race of the fall, before we move indoors for the winter. So it was great to see the strong effort displayed today."
