Rowing Adds 28 Talented Student-Athletes to the Team
Sept. 21, 2012
Boston College women's rowing welcomes 28 first-year rowers to the roster for the 2012-13 season.
These 28 athletes -- 26 freshmen, one sophomore, and one junior -- were officially named to the team on Sept. 21 after a two-week period that ended with a tryout. The team had announced the addition of 15 of these student-athletes in mid-August.
"Every single one of these athletes has the ability to make a tremendous contribution to BC rowing," assistant coach Amy Weatherby said.
The tryout consisted of rowing, running, and erging. Freshmen Michaela Jaffe and Erin Anderson both made the BC Rowing Top 10 Records list during the running portion of their tryout, and they now hold the fifth and sixth fastest times for the three mile run.
"Now that the team is set, I have challenged this group to try to exceed the strong results that the BC Class of 2015 set last year," Weatherby said.
The first race for the freshmen/novice group will be the Green Monster in Hanover, N.H. on Nov. 3 where the team will try to win for the second year in a row. They will end the fall season at the Foot of the Charles on Nov. 10.
