CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -
Boston College's First Varsity Eight crew was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week for the week of April 11, according to an announcement made by the conference. This is the first weekly honor for the Eagles since joining the ACC in 2005.
"This crew raced really well last weekend, so we are excited to build on that speed in our next race and throughout the rest of the season," head coach Steve Fiske said.
The 1V8+ crew recorded a time of 6:52.99 to defeat Holy Cross (6:55.72) and Massachusetts (6:55.42) last Saturday on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass and capture the Irving-Christensen Cup.
The BC Varsity Eight consisted of freshman coxswain Kelly McElduff, senior Erin Roche, freshman Nicole Frederick, junior Jennifer Johnson, senior Emily Charnowski, freshman Ellen Burr, junior Erica Jennings, freshman Emma Metzger and junior Sarah Loiselle,
The Varsity Eight's win was one of five victories in six races for BC, as the school also captured the Second Varsity Eight, the Third Varsity Eight, the Second Varsity Four and the Novice Eight competitions.
Boston College, along with three other ACC schools in Duke, Miami and North Carolina, will next be in action this Saturday and Sunday, April 14-15, at the Knecht Cup, which is hosted by Villanova on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
