Freshmen Rowing Wins the Green Monster
Nov. 6, 2011
HANOVER, N.H. -
The Boston College freshmen rowing squad won the annual Green Monster Regatta hosted by Dartmouth on Saturday, Nov. 5.
This nontraditional race determines the winner by combining the time of the "A" and "B" boat entries for each school, making the win an entire team effort.
The Boston College Eights finished second (BC "B" 16:59.7) and third (BC "A" 17:14.1) for the fastest combined time. Dartmouth had the fastest individual boat time (16:57.1) to finish just ahead of the Eagles' first boat. Boston rivals Radcliffe and MIT made up the rest of the competition along with UMass and Vermont.
"The freshmen have been working extremely hard in practice and it was great to see them come away with the team win today. The highlight for the coaches was watching the teamwork of these athletes," BC freshman squad coach Amy Weatherby said. "They have been a great inspiration to each other."
The Eagles will see many of these same competitors when they return to action on Nov. 12 at the Foot of the Charles Regatta on their home course, the Charles River.
