Rowing Wins BC-MIT Cup

Boston College won every event in which it raced, and the Varsity Eight won the BC-MIT Cup for the first time in its three-year existence in brisk conditions on the Charles River in Boston, Mass., on Saturday morning.
In the team's first regatta on the Charles this spring, the Varsity Eight pulled off a come-from-behind victory against MIT taking its lead on the last few strokes of the race. The Eagles finished with a time of 7:50.9 just ahead of the Engineers (7:51.7)
BC's Second Varsity Eight raced closely with the Engineers throughout the first 1,000 meters before the Eagles created a wider margin in the remainder of the race. BC clocked in at 7:48.9 while MIT came in at 7:59.0. The Second Varsity Eight remains undefeated during the spring season.
In the Varsity Four event, the Eagles won with a considerable lead. BC crossed the finish at 9:13.1 while MIT finished with a time of 9:56.0.
Racing in the same event, BC's Third Varsity Eight (7:17.0) and Novice Eight (7:24.0) took first and second place respectively against a crew from Vermont (8:06.3) and two entries from Simmons (8:28.9, 8:29. 4).
During the harshest conditions of the day, BC's Second (8:23.6) and Third Varsity (10:06.8) Fours finished in first and fourth respectively competing in the same event. The Second Varsity Four battled with two Simmons crews (8:27.2, 8:33.6) over the race's first 1,000 meters before pulling away from the Sharks in the last 500 meters.
Boston College next competes at the Knecht Cup from April 13-14 on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
