CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -
On the heels of completing its last fall exhibition, the Boston College lacrosse team released its schedule for the 2012 season on Wednesday, according to an announcement made head coach Bowen Holden.
"Each year, our strength of schedule improves and 2012 is no different," Holden said. "I am really looking forward to seeing our team compete against the best in the country, and I am very confident about the 2012 team's ability."
The Eagles' 2012 schedule includes six matchups against opponents who were ranked among the nation's top 20 at the end of last season - No. 2 Maryland, No. 3 North Carolina, No. 4 Duke, No. 7 Albany, No. 15 Virginia and No. 16 Syracuse.
Boston College will begin the season with a two-game road swing at Holy Cross (Feb. 17) and Syracuse (Feb. 21) before returning to the Heights for its home opener against Hofstra on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m.
The Eagles will host Virginia Tech in the squad's first ACC matchup of the season on Saturday, Mar. 10 at 1 p.m. BC will also play home against conference rival North Carolina in 2012, but will travel to Maryland, Virginia and Duke. The team will take part in the ACC Tournament, hosted by Duke, from Apr. 19-22 in Durham, N.C.
"This year's schedule will prepare the team perfectly for a second NCAA bid and a run at an ACC and National Championship," Holden commented. "We are all very excited about the spring, and the teams we will face will be the right mix of challenges as we look to achieve our ultimate goal."
BC will close out its home schedule against Yale on Saturday, Apr. 28, when the team celebrates Senior and Alumnae Day.
Despite all of the competition the squad will face in 2012, coach Holden prefers not to look too far ahead with the team's preparations this offseason.
"Every match-up is a big match-up. We truly believe in taking the season one game at a time," Holden explained. "We are only focused on Holy Cross at this point in time."
