Lacrosse Completes Exhibition Schedule
Nov. 8, 2011
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College lacrosse team closed out a successful fall exhibition schedule with a decisive, 19-7 victory against Dartmouth on Saturday, Oct. 29.
Head Coach Bowen Holden was happy with her team's performance in the scrimmage, commenting that it was a very good way for the group to end the fall.
"Our team started off slow, looking to find their footing against Dartmouth's pressure, but BC turned things around with our best performance of the fall season," Holden said. "We are in the best place BC lacrosse has been in heading into a season. We have a clear idea of what to work on and what we are capable of."
"In our last game against Dartmouth, an NCAA tournament team, we put everything together," team captain Kristin Igoe added. "Our offensive movement, shooting, defensive pressure, goaltending and transition all looked great."
The team's scrimmage against Dartmouth was its last of four fall events. Prior to this full-game exhibition, the team participated in three preseason tournaments, one of which was hosted by the Eagles.
BC opened its fall schedule at the Harvard Tournament on Oct. 2. The Eagles defeated both Harvard and New Hampshire, but fell to Syracuse.
"The team got off to a good start at Harvard. We had only had five or six practices up to that point, so that weekend showed us some things we could use work on," Holden commented.
On Oct. 15, the Eagles hosted three other teams in their own tournament. BC went 3-0 on the weekend, earning decisive victories against Boston University, Connecticut and UMass.
"At our tournament, it was good to see that our team was not only winning, but doing so in the way in which we wanted to," Holden explained.
BC made yet another positive step in the team's final preseason tournament at Yale on Oct. 23, once again going undefeated, with wins against Yale, Lehigh and Hofstra.
"The whole team is really happy with how the fall season went," Igoe said. "BC Lacrosse has never looked better. Even though we only had a few weeks of practice, we improved each day, and each tournament we got to see these improvements put on the field.
"We still have a lot to work on, but I can't wait for the spring season to start. It's going to be a really exciting year."
