Four Eagles Earn IWLCA All-Northeast Region Honors

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- Boston College women’s lacrosse players Sarah Mannelly, Mikaela Rix, Covie Stanwick and Kate McCarthy have earned IWLCA All-Northeast Region honors, the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association announced on Monday.
Mannelly, Rix and Stanwick gained First Team status while McCarthy captured Second Team honors. After earning regional honors, the three players are eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA’s National All-American team, which will be announced on Monday, May 19.
For the seventh straight year, BC landed three or more players on the All-Region team. Rix and Stanwick have taken home All-Northeast First Team honors for the third consecutive year while McCarthy took home Second Team honors last season.
Rix, a Tewaaraton Award Nominee, leads BC with 56 goals and ranks second on the team with 16 assists and 72 points. The Garden City, N.Y., native – a three-time All-ACC performer – also leads the squad with 73 draw controls. The midfielder earned WomensLax.com Player of the Week and ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors after recording a career-high six points in the season opener against Notre Dame.
Stanwick – also a Tewaaraton Award Nominee and three-time All-ACC player paces the squad with 84 points on 47 goals and 37 assists. The Baltimore, Md., product ranks first in the ACC in assists per game (2.00) and second in the conference in points per game (4.68).
Mannelly – an All-ACC performer has been a vital component in the midfield throughout her sophomore campaign. The New Canaan, Conn., native ranks third on the team with 64 points on 47 goals and 17 assists. She also leads the squad in caused turnovers with 14.
McCarthy – a two-time All-Region selection leads the Eagles’ defense. The Longmeadow, Mass., product leads the team in draw controls (41) and ranks third on the team with 25 ground balls on the season. She picked up ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors after her performance in the season opener against Notre Dame.
Boston College, which made history twice in one weekend, will play Syracuse in the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Syracuse, N.Y.
