May 4, 2014
Chestnut Hill, Mass. -
The No. 5/6 Boston College women's lacrosse team will host the first two rounds of the 2014 NCAA Tournament at the BC Lacrosse Complex on Friday, May 9 and Sunday, May 11. The Eagles will play No. 41 Bryant in the second game of the day at 5 p.m. while the first game is No. 9 UMass vs. No. 10 Loyola (MD) at 2 p.m.
The second round game will be on Sunday, May 11 at 1 p.m.
"We are really excited about our first round match-up. We have not played Bryant for several years and I think it's a refreshing opponent. I know our girls will be ready for it,'' said BC Head Coach Acacia Walker.
This is the second consecutive season the Eagles have earned a tournament berth. It is the first time the program has hosted NCAA Tournament games.
Boston College has played Bryant twice. The Eagles defeated Bryant, 20-4, in 2010. In the 2009 season, BC hosted Bryant and won, 15-2.
Boston College finished the 2014 season with a 13-5 record and ranked fifth by the NCAA and the Brine Women's Media Poll. The 13 victories is a new program high. Of the 18 opponents Boston College played this season, 14 opponents are ranked in the Top 50, while seven opponents are ranked in the Top 20 in the polls.
The Eagles have made two previous appearances in the NCAA Tournament. In 2013, the Eagles lost at Dartmouth, 11-8, in a first round game on the road in New Hampshire. In 2011, BC lost to second-seeded Northwestern, 11-8, in a first-round matchup on the Wildcats' Lakeside Field in Evanston, Ill.
Second-year head coach Acacia Walker will participate in her second NCAA Tournament as a head coach but will take part in the tournament for the 12th time in the last 13 years as either a player or coach.
