Lacrosse's Rix and Stanwick Named to Preseason All-ACC Team

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- 

Junior midfielder Mikaela Rix and junior attacker Covie Stanwick were named to the 2014 All-ACC Preseason poll, as announced on Tuesday by the conference office. Boston College was picked to finish seventh in a vote by the coaches in the preseason.

The Eagles were also voted No. 17 in the Brine Women's Media Poll and No. 20 in the IWLCA Preseason Coaches' Poll.

The Preseason All-ACC Team features six returning First-Team All-Americans as selected by the IWLCA, and 11 returning All-America selections overall.

Seven of the eight ACC institutions were recognized on the Preseason All-ACC Team, led by Maryland with three selections. North Carolina, Syracuse, Boston College and Duke each had two student-athletes named to the team, while Notre Dame and Virginia each had one student-athlete tabbed.

Stanwick serves as the Eagles' leader on attack. The Baltimore, Md., product started all 20 games as a sophomore and set BC's single-season goals record 65 goals. She earned All-ACC and ACC All-Tournament team as well as IWLCA All-Northeast Region First Team and IWLCA All-America Second-Team accolades.

Rix started all 20 games as a sophomore as well. The Garden City, N.Y., native was named a Tewaarton Award Nominee, captured IWLCA All-Northeast Region First Team and IWLCA All-America Second Team accolade, and earned All-ACC honors.

The Eagles, who finished the 2013 season 12-8 overall, 3-2 in the ACC, and earned an NCAA Tournament berth, tallied 23 points in the coaches' vote. 2013 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Champion North Carolina received the maximum 60 points and four first-place votes, earning the top spot in the poll.

NCAA runner-up Maryland was selected second with two first-place votes and 54 points, while ACC newcomer and 2013 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Final Four participant Syracuse followed close behind with two first-place votes and 53 points for third.

Duke (34) was picked to finish fourth, Virginia (29) fifth, Notre Dame (27) sixth, and Virginia Tech (8) eighth.

The Eagles begin their season Saturday, February 15 at Notre Dame. The game is set to begin at 2 p.m.
