Women's Lacrosse Falls To Big Green, 13-9
May 2, 2007
Hanover, N.H.--The Boston College Eagles fell to the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team, 13-9, in Hanover on Wednesday evening. The Eagles outscored the Big Green, 8-5, in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome a seven-goal halftime deficit. They fall to 5-11 on the season.
Sophomores Jenna McCabe and Lauren Fitzpatrick each notched two goals to pace BC, but classmates Maura Mahoney, Emily Hannigan, Rachel Tinquist, freshman Peyton Killeen and senior Katherine Wagoner each pitched in with a goal apiece.
Dartmouth darted out to an early 7-0 lead to open the game, just as Virginia did last Thursday in the ACC quarterfinals. Mahoney notched the first BC goal at 13:10 on a free position shot. The Big Green's Katherine Chiusano added one more goal to the home team's lead with six seconds left in the half. Dartmouth led, 8-1, at intermission and held a 12-5 advantage in shots. All other categories were nearly even.
The Big Green opened up the second half with another goal for their largest lead of the game, 9-1. Killeen and Wagoner beat goalie Julie Wadland. Both assists were credited to freshman Lauren Costello, who finished with three helpers on the night. After Dartmouth struck twice more in the span of a minute, the Eagles scored six of the game's last eight goals in the final 11 minutes of regulation. BC outshot Dartmouth, 15-9, in the last 30 minutes and won nine draws to the Big Green's four.
Sophomore Katie Monaghan started in goal for the Eagles, making two saves, allowing eight goals and earning the loss. Junior Courtney Zwirko also made two saves in her 32:31 of work. Wadland went the distance and made eight saves.
The Eagles finish the 2007 campaign when they host Brown on Saturday, May 5 at the Newton Campus Complex. Head coach Bowen Holden and the BC squad will recognize the four senior co-captains prior to the first draw.
