#6 Women's Lacrosse Beats Vermont, 16-11

NEWTON, Mass. - Junior Covie Stanwick recorded eight points to lead the No. 6 women's lacrosse team to a 16-11 victory against Vermont on Wednesday afternoon at the Newton Campus Field.
Stanwick scored two goals and dished out a career-high six assists. Junior Mikaela Rix and sophomore Sarah Mannelly both scored four goals while graduate student Brooke Blue added three goals. Rix also had five draw controls.
Boston College opened the game by scoring the first seven goals. Rix scored two of the goals while Stanwick had a goal and four assists during that 16-minute span. Jessica Roach broke up the streak with Vermont's first goal at the 12:49 mark.
The Eagles closed out the half with a 3-1 run to build a 10-2 lead at the break. Rix had another goal while Stanwick added a goal and an assist.
The Catamounts battled back in the second half by scoring four of the first five goals to cut their deficit to 11-6 a little more than five minutes in. Vanessa VanderZalm scored two of those four goals. Vermont cut into the lead even more when Marcie Marino scored with 16:10 left to make it 12-8.
BC responded with four of the next five goals to put the game out of reach. Stanwick and Mannelly scored unassisted goals to push the lead back to 14-8 with 13:28 left. After a VanderZalm goal, Mannelly and Rix scored two more times to make it a 16-9 lead. The Eagles used long offensive possessions to score and take time off the clock.
Vermont scored the final two goals in the game's last five minutes.
Jessica Roach led Vermont (10-5) with three goals and two assists while VanderZalm scored four times.
Boston College (12-4) will host the 2014 ACC Championship at Alumni Stadium from April 24-27.
