#5 Lacrosse Edges #8 Duke, 13-11

DURHAM, N.C.- Sophomore Sarah Mannelly and junior Covie Stanwick led Boston College with a game-high five goals apiece as the No. 5 lacrosse team edged ACC foe No. 8 Duke, 13-11, on Saturday afternoon in Durham, N.C.
Duke (8-5, 2-3 ACC) was led by Kelci Smesko who recorded four goals.
The first 12 minutes of the contest was back and forth until Boston College scored four consecutive goals to build an 8-4 advantage with 8:30 left in the first period. Mannelly, Stanwick, and Rix all scored during the run.
The Blue Devils answered with a 4-0 run of their own to knot the contest at 8-8 with three minutes left in the first half. Mannelly buried one into the net with just .32 left in the first to give the Eagles a 9-8 edge heading into the locker room.
Blue and Stanwick opened the second period with two goals to push the lead, 11-8. Duke’s Maddy Morrissey and Smesko netted back-to-back goals to close the gap, 11-10, at the 17:45 mark.
After Mannelly scored midway through the period, Duke again brought it within one to make it 12-11 with 10:48 on the clock.
Stanwick netted her final goal of the game to give the Eagles a 13-11 advantage and Boston College’s defense held Duke scoreless in the final six minutes of play.
Boston College held the advantage in shots (22-17) and ground balls (13-6).
The Eagles return to action on Thursday, April 10, at Virginia. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
