No. 5 Lacrosse Topples Holy Cross, 11-5

NEWTON, Mass.- Junior Mikaela Rix led the Eagles with four points on three goals and an assist as the No. 5 lacrosse team defeated Holy Cross, 11-5, on Wednesday evening at the Newton Lacrosse Field.
Senior Moira Barry also netted three goals. The three goals were a game high. Sophomore Sarah Mannelly scored twice and added an assist while classmate Caroline Margolis, graduate student Brooke Blue, and freshman Kate Weeks all added one goal apiece.
The Eagles (9-3, 1-3 ACC) scored back-to-back goals to open up the game. Rix and Barry scored during the opening run. Holy Cross closed the gap on a free position shot with 22:11 left in the first half before Margolis and Mannelly scored consecutive goals to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead at the 15:48 mark. Both BC goals were unassisted.
The Crusaders (5-8) managed to get one more goal in the first half but Barry netted back-to-back goals at the end of the period to give the Eagles a 6-2 edge at the half. Mannelly and Rix assisted on the goals.
Boston College scored the first four goals of the second half to establish a 10-2 lead with 20:58 left to play. Weeks, Blue, and Rix scored during the run.
Margie Smith found the net at the 13:06 mark to add a point for the Crusaders but Mannelly responded just a minute later to make it an 11-3 BC lead.
The Crusaders scored the final two goals of the period but the Eagles held on for the win.
Boston College held the advantage in shots (23-11) and draw controls (13-5). Holy Cross edged the Eagles in ground balls (18-12) and saves (5-3).
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday as they travel to No. 8 Duke for a noon game.
