No. 10/9 Boston College Drops to No. 2/3 Syracuse, 11-9

NEWTON, Mass.- Junior Mikaela Rix led the Eagles with three goals, but No. 10/9 Boston College fell to No. 2/3 Syracuse, 11-9, on Wednesday afternoon at Newton Lacrosse and Soccer Field.
Syracuse (5-0, 2-0 ACC) was led by Katie Webster (3 goals) and Alyssa Murray (3 goals).
Syracuse started off the scoring early in the first. Rix buried one into the net off a free position shot and Mannelly peeled around the cage and whipped one between the pipes to give the Eagles a 2-1 advantage with 13:31 to play in the half.
The Orange scored back-to-back goals but Rix answered with two of her own to give BC a 4-3 lead at halftime.
Katie Webster scored in the opening minutes of the second half to tie the game, 4-4. Stanwick found Barry who netted her first tally give the Eagles a one-point lead, 5-4, with 21:22 left to play.
The Orange then scored four straight goals in less than five minutes to give them an 8-5 edge with 13:18 to go.
BC and SU traded a pair of goals late in the second half. Despite two more points from Stanwick, the Eagles were not able to recover and Syracuse took the game, 11-9.
The Orange held an advantage in shots (22-17) and ground balls (14-9). Boston College edged Syracuse in saves (7-6) and draw controls (12-10).
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday, March 1 as they travel to Storrs, Conn., to take on UConn. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
The contest served as the 11th all-time meeting between the two teams as the first as ACC foes.
