Sophomores Mikaela Rix and Covie Stanwick each scored three goals, but No. 20/18 Boston College fell to No. 13/- Ohio State, 15-8, at the Woody Hayes Athletic Complex in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles (2-1, 0-0 ACC) used a 6-1 run in the second half to cut the Buckeyes' (2-1, 0-0 ALC) lead from 10-2 to 11-8, but Ohio State scored the game's last four goals for the final margin.
Rix also tallied an assist and three ground balls while junior Cali Ceglarski added two assists. Junior Kate McCarthy recorded a goal and four caused turnovers.
For the Buckeyes, Katie Chase scored four goals while Kelsea Ayers and Cian Dabrowski each had three goals.
After 14 minutes of scoreless play to open the game, Stanwick got the Eagles on the board first off a Ceglarski feed with 15:59 to go in the first half. The Buckeyes then went on a 5-0 run to take a 5-1 lead with eight minutes left in the opening period. OSU's Dabrowski scored twice during the streak.
Senior Brooke Blue - off a Rix assist - stemmed the run with a goal, cutting Ohio State's edge to 5-2 with 7:42 remaining in the half. The Buckeyes responded with three straight goals to close the half, bringing an 8-2 advantage into the locker room.
Ohio State scored the second half's first two goals before Rix connected on a shot just under 10 minutes into the period. The Buckeyes scored again two minutes later to push their lead to 11-3.
The Eagles countered with five consecutive goals to pull within 11-8 of OSU with just under nine minutes to play. McCarthy scored the run's first goal while Rix and Stanwick each scored twice during the streak. From there, the Buckeyes converted on the game's last four goals to seal the win.
Next, Boston College hosts Connecticut on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. on the Newton Campus Lacrosse Field.
Saturday's game marked the first meeting between the two schools in women's lacrosse ... Covie Stanwick has scored at least three goals in each of BC's three games this season.
