Alex Carpenter Named WHEA Player of the Week
Dec. 12, 2011
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College women's ice hockey freshman center Alex Carpenter was named the Athletic Republic Hockey East Player of the Week in a conference announcement on Monday. The North Reading, Mass. native garnered her third league honor of the season with a three-point (2g, 1a) weekend against Mercyhurst.
Carpenter sealed the 4-2 win over then-ranked No. 6 Mercyhurst on Friday and delivered BC's first goal before assisting its second in Saturday's overtime loss, 3-2, to finish the series with a +3 rating. The Eagles had not defeated the Lakers since 2001 and set a new program standard of 13 wins heading into the December break.
The rookie leads the fourth-ranked Eagles with 12 goals and 11 assists. Carpenter's 23 points and 1.21 points per game average are the fifth highest in the nation for a freshman and fourth out of all Hockey East members.
Carpenter had previously been named Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week on Oct. 10 and October Rookie of the Month. This is ninth league distinction for Boston College so far this season.
The first-year Eagle will represent Boston College at the 2012 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) U18 World Championship from Dec. 31 - Jan. 7 in the Czech Republic. Carpenter will be making her third appearance for the United States at the championship tournament, having previously won gold (2011) and silver (2010) medals.
