Chestnut Hill, Mass. - No. 6/6 Boston College women's ice hockey freshman Alex Carpenter was named the Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Month, announced the conference on Tuesday. This is the second league accolade for the North Reading, Mass., native, as the center was named Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week back on Oct. 10.
After one month of collegiate competition, the Carpenter's 1.38 points per game tops all Hockey East rookies and is fifth best in the nation. The forward leads the Eagles (5-2-1, 2-1-1 Hockey East) across the three scoring categories: points (11), goals (6) and assists (5). She has notched a point in six games, with three multiple point performances in October. Additionally, the rookie's five points (3g, 2a) in league play is tied for most in the conference among all players.
Through eight games, Carpenter has scored one and assisted another game-winning goal against nationally ranked teams.
The first came in the second game of the season, when the then-ranked No. 5/5 Eagles were pitted against No. 7/7 Minnesota-Duluth. The Eagles were charged with killing a penalty to close out regulation with the score tied, 2-2. Carpenter delivered a short-handed goal with 0.4 seconds to play to give BC a 3-2 win.
Against No. 10/10 Dartmouth, Carpenter scored twice to help Boston College erase a three goal deficit heading into the third period. As time neared expiration, the freshman connected with classmate Emily Field with 1.6 second left to complete a 4-3 comeback win over the Big Green.
Carpenter has also proved productive on face-offs, winning over 60 percent of her attempts.
Boston College will host Boston University on Wednesday, November 2 at 7 p.m. in its fourth top 10 matchup this season. Fans are invited to watch a live stream available through bceagles.com or keep up with live stats via GameTracker.
