Aug. 5, 2014
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Eight current members of the Boston College women’s hockey team and a pair of alumnae were invited to take part in the distinguished 2014 USA Hockey Women’s National Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y., from Aug. 12-16.
Senior Alex Carpenter, member of the silver medal-winning 2014 U.S. Women’s Olympic Hockey Team, joins classmates Lexi Bender, Emily Field, Emily Pfalzer, Haley Skarupa and Dana Trivigno alongside junior Andie Anastos and sophomore Megan Keller as the eight current Eagles to earn an invitation. Recent graduates, Corinne Boyles and Blake Bolden, are also part of the 69-player jubilee.
The Festival will be used to select the 22-player rosters for a pair of series against Canada held simultaneously from Aug. 21-24 in Calgary, Alberta, at Canada Olympic Park. The U.S. entries will feature an under-18 team and 22-and-under squadron.
Carpenter, Team USA’s leading goal scorer (4) at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, will be part of the prestigious Olympic group taking part in camp, including Northeastern’s Kendall Coyne, Harvard’s Michelle Picard and Minnesota’s Lee Stecklein.
Skarupa anchored the Eagles’ scoring efforts in 2013-14, averaging 1.24 points per game (25-16-41), good for 11th in the country. Anastos was second on the squad with 0.95 points per tilt (14-21-35) and tied for 33rd in all of college hockey.
The 2014 USA Hockey Women's National Festival will take place at the Lake Placid Olympic Center and all practices and scrimmages will be open to the public. The rosters for the U.S. Women's Select Teams (U18 and U22) will be announced on Aug. 17.
