Women's Hockey Sweeps All-New England Awards

April 2, 2013

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Sophomore forward Alex Carpenter was voted as the New England Division I Player of the Year while head coach Katie King Crowley took home New England Division I Coach of the Year accolades in an announcement made by the New England Hockey Writers Association on Tuesday.  Five members of the Boston College women’s hockey team were also named as New England All-Stars for their performances in 2012-13.

Carpenter receives New England Player of the Year accolades for her school record 70 point campaign in 2012-13.  The top-10 Patty Kazmaier finalist and Hockey East Player of the Year set a Hockey East record with a 24-game point streak this season in which she amassed 23 goals and 29 assists over that span.  The sophomore is currently competing with the U.S. National Team at the World Championships being held in Ottawa, Ontario this week.

Head Coach Katie King Crowley is the first BC coach to win the award since Tom Mutch in 2006-07.  In 2012-13, the Eagles boasted their most successful season in team history – amassing 27 wins and scoring a team record 159 goals en route to their third consecutive Frozen Four appearance.  In her six seasons at the Heights, Crowley has accumulated a record of 119-62-34 including four seasons of 20+ wins.

Senior captain Blake Bolden was named as a New England All-Star defenseman for the second consecutive season for her 6-23-29, +38 campaign in 2012-13.  Bolden is joined on the all-star blue line by sophomore Emily Pfalzer, who tallied four goals and 13 assists this season for the Eagles.

The all-star forwards included Carpenter and freshman Haley Skarupa.  Skarupa, the reigning Hockey East Rookie of the Year, recorded 24 goals and 29 assists this season for the Eagles.

Senior goaltender Corinne Boyles earned her first New England All-Star recognition with a 22-5-1 record, 1.83 GAA and .927 save percentage in 2012-13.  The Wheaton, Illinois native was recognized as the Hockey East Goaltending Champion at the league’s annual awards banquet on March 8.
