Bolden, Carpenter Named New England All-Stars

March 27, 2012

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Boston College women’s ice hockey team members and Patty Kazmaier nominees Blake Bolden and Alex Carpenter were named to the 2011-12 New England Hockey Writers Division I All-Star Team by a vote of coaches and respective media outlets throughout New England released on Tuesday.

The team consists of six forwards, four defensemen and two goaltenders. Northeastern’s Florence Schelling (GK) was named Player of the Year and Providence’s Genevieve Lacasse was the other goaltender.

Joining Bolden (8-13-21) on the backline were Harvard’s Joseph Pucci (5-16-21), BU’s Kasey Boucher (6-10-16) and Stephanie Gavronsky (6-8-14) of Northeastern.

Carpenter was listed among fellow forwards Jenn Wakefield (14-17-31) of BU, Kelly Babstock (18-22-40) of Quinnipiac, Jillian Dempsey (27-21-48) of Harvard and Northeastern’s Kendall Coyne (26-19-45) and Casey Pickett (18-23-41).

Bolden and Carpenter led Boston College to a program record 24 wins en route to its second straight appearance in the NCAA Frozen Four. The Eagles were also recognized as Hockey East All-Stars and All-Beanpot honorees this season. The duo combined for six weekly and monthly conference accolades this year.

Bolden was the second highest scoring defenseman in the Hockey East this year. In 37 games, the Stow, Ohio product delivered eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points. The 21 tallies are the third most in a single-season by a BC blue-liner. Bolden championed a defense that allowed the 10th fewest goals per game in the nation this season (2.14). With 53 career points (20g, 33a), the junior is featured in the top five of all BC’s defensemen scoring records.

Carpenter finished her freshman campaign as the fifth leading scorer in the Hockey East. The North Reading, Mass. native produced 21 goals and 18 assists, becoming the first rookie to lead the Eagles in scoring in five years. Her 39 points were fifth most in the country by a rookie and third most by a first-year member of the BC program.
