CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Current women's hockey team members Alex Carpenter and Haley Skarupa are invited to the 2013 U.S. Women's National Team training camp to be held in Lake Placid, N.Y., in an announcement made by USA Hockey on Monday. The 28-player camp from March 25-31 will decide the final roster for the 2013 IIHF Women's World Championship set to take place from April 2-9 in Ottawa, Ontario.
The final roster will be comprised of 23 players to be announced on March 30. Current junior Taylor Wasylk competed in two games in last year's world championships as USA dropped a 5-4 decision to Canada in the gold medal game.
Carpenter, the native of North Reading, Mass., led the Hockey East in scoring this season with 67 points - a 2.03 points per game average. She recorded her 100th career point against Connecticut on Feb. 17 and her 50th career goal at Providence on Feb. 19 en route to setting a BC record for single-season scoring. The sophomore forward boasts career totals of 52 goals and 54 assists in 68 games played.
Skarupa, the native of Rockville, Md., finished first in the Hockey East and second in the NCAA in freshman scoring with 49 points. Her first season at the Heights included two hat tricks and four game-winning goals as she ended the regular season with 22 goals and 27 assists in only 29 games played.
The U.S. has brought home gold in three of the last four Women's World Championships (the event is not held during Olympic years).
