Ashley Motherwell Named WHEA Player of the Week
Feb. 13, 2012
Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Ashley Motherwell was selected as the Athletic Republic Hockey East Player of the Week after registering seven points (3g, 4a) in three wins for the sixth-ranked Boston College women’s ice hockey team. This is the first such honor for the junior from St. Charles, Ill.
Motherwell, who has a career-best 24 points (11g, 13a) so far this season, produced her first multi-goal performance in Tuesday night’s 4-2 win over No. 8 Harvard at the 34th Annual Beanpot. The forward broke a 1-1 tie with a power play goal in the second, before adding an insurance tally during the third period, helping the Eagles end a three-game slump. The victory was just the fifth over the Crimson at the tournament and the seventh win over a ranked team this season for BC.
Motherwell followed with a three-point game (1g, 2a) on the road Saturday at Connecticut and a two assist outing against the Huskies at home on Sunday. The right-winger tallied 10 shots on goal and a plus-five rating over the weekend.
Boston College’s special teams unit has gone 5-for-10 since Motherwell netted her fourth power play goal of the year. The Eagles were just 6-for-42 on special teams coming out of the winter break.
This is the sixth time an Eagle has been named the Hockey East Player of the Week this season.
With two regular-season games remaining, the Eagles are two points out of first place in the Hockey East standings. A win or a tie against Vermont on Feb. 17-18 would assure a first-round bye in the league playoffs. Both games will be available for a live-stream on bceagles.com.
