Celebrating Conte Forum’s Anniversary: In Their Own Words

Former women’s ice hockey star Genevieve Richardson describes her most memorable moment

To mark the 25th anniversary of Conte Forum, former student-athletes retell their favorite memories on the court and ice.

Genevieve Richardson (1999-03) is ranked 7th all-time at Boston College among defensemen with 41 career points. She is ranked 5th all-time among BC defensemen with 12 career goals and 6th all-time with 39 career assists. Richardson was selected to the 2002 United States Women’s Select Team which competed in the Four Nations Cup.

“When I was a member of the women’s ice hockey team at BC, the home and away team locker rooms were on the same side of the arena. As the home team, we had to walk past our opponents in the hallway to get out onto the ice first. They waited and watched us go by. This "too close for comfort" situation just added more fuel to the "attack-mode" fire. I remember being proud to wear the BC jersey while thinking, "Oh, it's on!" We took this circumstantial hype in stride and would often run out onto the ice as a result. We also had a pretty awesome warm-up mix tape.

“We had some great fans at BC. Conte is a big arena but familiar faces [and pets] were often easy to spot in the stands. We were highly supported by family and friends and were made to feel like we could crush anything in our path. We had a new opportunity to make BC WIH history every time we stepped out onto the ice.”
