Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Sophomore forward Alex Carpenter earned Athletic Republic Player of the Month honors for her performance in the month of January as announced by the Hockey East on Tuesday.

The product of Reading, Mass. amassed 24 points (9g, 15a) over a span of nine games last month as well as a +19 rating.  Carpenter recorded eight multi-point games during that stretch and her 2.67 point per game pace in January has vaulted her into fifth in the NCAA scoring race (50 points). For her career, Carpenter sits only 11 points away from the 100-point plateau and is currently 15 points away from setting the single-season BC scoring record (64, Erin Magee in 1995-96).

Carpenter is also a four-time Player of the Week recipient this season including three consecutive weeks in the month of January.

Last month marks the first time an Eagle has earned the Player of the Month accolades since April 2011, when Kelli Stack led the Eagles to their first of two consecutive Frozen Four appearances.

Carpenter and the Eagles will be back in action on Saturday night in Orono against Maine before opening round action of the 35th Annual Beanpot kicks off on Feb. 5 against #3 Harvard.
