Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College women's ice hockey team fell to Princeton University, 3-2, in overtime this afternoon at Kelley Rink. The Tigers scored with 11 seconds left in the extra frame to take the game from the Eagles. Alison Quandt stopped 27 shots for BC.

The Eagles came out shooting with nine shots on goal in opening period. At 13:45 into the stanza BC opened up the scoring. Colleen Harris set up the goal with a pass to Krystal Strassman on the goal line. Strassman found Deborah Spillane at the top of the crease who beat Princeton's goalie to give the Eagles a 1-0 edge. The goal gives Spillane her eighth of the season.

BC (4-11-1) out-shot Princeton 9-5 in the first.

Princeton (9-4-2) was called for two penalties with less than one minute remaining in the first to give the Eagles a 5-on-3 advantage to start the second. Just 35 seconds in, Sarah Feldman connected on a pass from Spillane for her sixth power-play goal of the year. Spillane earned her 13th assist of the season on the tally.

Quandt was unbeatable in the middle frame as she stopped all 13 shots she faced. Four minutes into the period the junior stuffed a Princeton breakaway and with 30 seconds remaining she shut down another breakaway to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead heading into the third period.

In the third period, Princeton put 11 shots on goal. The Tigers were able to get on the board at 3:49 when Chrissie Norwich scored her first goal of the season. Seven minutes later Kim Pearce tied the game on a pass from Katharine Maglione and Dina McCumber.

BC completed eight shots on net in the third.

The two teams headed into the extra frame deadlocked at two. With 11 seconds remaining in the game, Pearce tallied the gamewinner for her second goal of the game.

 

 

BC's defense played a strong game, especially on the penalty kill. The Eagles held the Tigers scoreless on its power-play chances and to only three shots on their three attempts.

BC finished the day 1-for-3 on its power-play opportunities.

Quandt made 27 saves, while Roxanne Gaudiel stopped 18 shots for Princeton.

BC will take a few weeks off before heading to Lake Placid, N.Y. on January 1. The Eagles will play Clarkson University at 4 p.m. on Saturday and at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
