No. 7/8 WIH Falls to No. 3 Cornell, 2-0
Nov. 29, 2013
ITHACA, N.Y. - Hayleigh Cudmore and Taylor Woods each scored two power play goals and Big Red goaltender Lauren Slebodnick stopped 27 shots in her second shutout of the season to lead No. 3 Cornell over No. 7/8 Boston College at James Lynah Rink on Friday night.
Cornell took control of the game from the get-go and had a 14-5 advantage in shots in the first period, but the Eagles were able to keep the Big Red off the board in the first period and both teams were scoreless as they entered the first intermission.
Cudmore gave Cornell a 1-0 lead at 2:26 of the middle frame with a power-play goal, her fifth of the year, taking advantage of a tripping call on Kate Leary. The senior from Oakville, Ontario scored on one of just six Big Red shots in the middle stanza. BC was held to only three shots in the stanza.
Woods doubled the lead for the Big Red at 12:06 of the final period, burying a feed from Cudmore into the net past goaltender Corinne Boyles with one second remaining on the man-advantage.
Boston College showed some life in the third period and fired 19 shots on goal in the stanza, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Kristyn Capizzano and Dana Trivigno led the Eagles with six shots in the game, but neither was able to beat Slebodnick to put the Eagles on the board. Cornell clogged the slot throughout the game and blocked 13 BC shots.
Boyles made 26 saves in 59:17 and falls to 8-4-0. Slebodnick made 27 saves and improves to 9-0-2 on the season.
BC was 0-5 on the power play while Cornell went 2-6 on the man advantage.
