Nov. 24, 2013
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Freshman Andie Anastos scored a goal and added an assist and goaltender Megan Miller made 17 saves to lift No. 7 Boston College over Connecticut 3-2 at Freitas Ice Pavilion on Sunday afternoon.
UConn took an early lead at 3:39 of the first period with a goal from Kayla Campero, her fifth of the season. The goal marked the first time the Huskies had a lead in a game against the Eagles since February 4, 2011. Seven games have been played between the two teams since that game.
Dana Trivigno knotted up the score at 14:02 of the first period with a power play goal, beating UConn goaltender Sarah Moses. Emily Pfalzer and Emily Field assisted on the play. Melissa Bizzari then gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead with 15 seconds remaining in the first period.
After being outshot 20-3 in the first frame yesterday, the Huskies had a 10-8 advantage in shots after the first period in today’s game.
UConn tied up the score once again at 4:47 of the middle stanza when Emily Snodgrass buried a shot into the net from the slot. Michela Cava notched her second assist of the game on the goal.
Despite dialing up the pressure and tripling the Huskies’ shots (15-5) in the second period, the Eagles were not able to find the back of the net on any of their many chances in the stanza.
Miller stopped 17 shots and improves to 3-0-1. Sarah Moses made 27 saves and falls to 2-4-1.
The Eagles (11-3-1, 7-1-0 WHEA) will travel to Ithaca, NY to take on Cornell on November 29 and 30.
