No. 7 WIH Erupts for Six Goals in Win Against Providence

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Freshmen Lexi Bender’s three assists and Dana Trivigno’s goal and assist paced the No. 7 women’s hockey team (4-3-1, 3-2-1 Hockey East) to a 6-1 win over Providence (6-4-1, 4-1-0 Hockey East) on Wednesday.
Corinne Boyles stopped 17 Friars shots en route to her third victory of the season while Sarah Bryant stopped 32 for the Friars in the loss.
The action was back and forth in the early minutes of the first period as the teams skated the first four minutes of the game without a stoppage in play. The Friars struck for the only tally of the period when Rebecca Morse scored her second goal of the season on a blast from the top of the circles over Corinne Boyles’ shoulder. Sarah Bryant turned aside all 13 Eagles shots she faced in the first 20 minutes while Boyles stopped seven of eight. BC has been outscored 7-5 in the first period of games this season.
The teams were even through the first 10 minutes of the second stanza before the Eagles exploded for three goals in the final half of the period. Dana Trivigno (3) buried a feed from Lexi Bender on the power play at 9:30; Alex Carpenter (7) beat Bryant over the shoulder on the power play at 14:14; and Emily Field (3) hammered home a loose puck at the top of the crease at 18:15 to give BC a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes. The Eagles have converted on eight power play opportunities over the past four games. Shots on goal after two periods: BC 29, Providence 13.
Haley Skarupa (4) opened the scoring in the third period as she put a shot from the right circle under the crossbar to extend the Eagles lead to 4-1 at the 25 second mark. Kate Leary added her third goal and second goal in as many games at 7:41 while Meghan Grieves concluded the scoring at 14:35 with her third goal of the season.
