No. 3/4 WIH Drops Opener to BU, 4-2

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The No. 3/4 Boston College women’s ice hockey team kicked off its Hockey East slate with a 4-2 home loss to rival Boston University on Friday night.
Sophomore Emily registered a goal and an assist for the Eagles but it wasn’t enough as Sarah Lefort’s equalizer in the second period and eventual game winning goal in the third proved to be the difference.
The Terriers opened the scoring in the first with a goal by Shannon Stoneburgh just 2:28 into the game. Boston College was able to survive four first period penalties thanks to Corinne Boyles’ six save effort.
The Eagles notched two quick goals in the second from Emily Field and Ashley Motherwell to take a 2-1 lead. Motherwell’s goal came on the power play at the 5:54 mark. Lefort’s goal at 9:05 evened things up for the Terriers after 40 minutes of play.
The two sides were even with 11 shots apiece in the 3rd period however the Terriers put the game away with two goals just 41 seconds apart from Lefort and Jordan Juron. Goaltender Kerrin Sperry finished with 29 saves in her first victory of the season. Corinne Boyles stopped 24 shots in the loss for the Eagles.
The Eagles return to action next Saturday as they face the Boston Blades of the CWHL in an exhibition game at 2 p.m. at Conte Forum.
