BURLINGTON, Vt. – The #2 women’s hockey team got two goals from Vermont native Melissa Bizzari en route to a 4-0 win over the Catamounts on Sunday. BC will face off against Maine in the Hockey East Quarterfinals next Friday at Kelley Rink.
Corinne Boyles made 21 saves for her third shutout of the season and 10th of her career to improve to 20-3-1 while Kelci Lanthier stopped 29 shots to fall to 3-6-0.
The Eagles’ nemesis from yesterday found herself getting a rest today as goaltender Roxanne Douville backed up senior Kelci Lanthier to start the game. The teams played a similar defensive game in the first period but BC was able utilize their power play to take a lead into the locker room.
Emily Pfalzer fed Bizzari (15th) on the left wing and her one-timer popped up into the air and trickled over the goal line to give BC a 1-0 lead at 14:09.
The Eagles extended their lead with three second period goals to go 4-0 after 40 minutes.
Bizzari (16th) beat Lanthier on a snap shot at 6:24 and then Skarupa (22nd) tallied her second shorthanded goal of the season on a breakaway at 13:14. Ashley Motherwell tallied her 11th goal of the season on the power play at 17:10 as she cleaned up a loose puck outside the crease. Despite the fewer shot totals compared to yesterday, the Eagles were finding a way to convert on their opportunities. Shots on goal after two periods were 17-15 in favor of BC.
The teams played a scoreless third period as Boyles held strong in goal to preserve the shutout and give the Eagles their 25th victory of the season.
