ORONO, Maine - Alex Carpenter tallied two goals and an assist and extended her Hockey East record point streak to 24 games as the #2 Eagles (20-4-2, 13-2-1 WHEA) topped Maine 6-3 on Saturday night.
Corinne Boyles made 22 saves in her first action since Jan. 19 as she improved to 16-2-0 this season. Brittany Ott made 34 saves for the Black Bears in the loss to fall to 4-12-3.
Five Eagles recorded multi-point games as BC won for the 16th time in the last 17 games.
The ice was tilted towards the Maine end for most of the first period as the Eagles stormed the Black Bears goal and held a 14-3 edge in shots. Black Bears goaltender Brittany Ott frustrated BC with several brilliant stops to keep the game scoreless after 20 minutes.
Alex Carpenter had BC's best bid in the period on a partial breakaway but Ott was equal to the task.
Maine jumped on the board just 21 seconds into the second period on a power play goal by Shawna Lesperance who put home a loose puck in the goal mouth past Boyles.
Seemingly frustrated, the Eagles stormed the Maine net and were finally rewarded as Carpenter notched her 22nd and 23rd goals in a 2:35 span to put BC up 2-1.
The Eagles tacked onto their lead with Melissa Bizzari's 12th goal at 11:48 as she cleaned up on a strong drive to the net by freshman Dana Trivigno. Lexi Bender tallied the fourth goal of the period as her wrister from the point found its way past Ott to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Shots on goal through two periods were 26-15 in favor of BC.
Maine tried to mount a comeback as Missy Denk deflected in a Brittany Huneke point shot past Boyles at 7:45 to cut the BC lead to 4-2.
The Eagles laid to rest all thoughts of a comeback on Dru Burns' first goal of the season at 15:13 and Kate Leary's 10th at 17:14.
Lesperance notched her second goal of the game with just 34 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.
