Nov. 9, 2011
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Boston College sophomore Nicole Schuster was named to the 2011 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Field Hockey Championship All-Tournament Team, according to an announcement made by the conference on Sunday, Nov. 6.
"It is an honor for Nicole to be recognized as one of the top players in the best conference in the country,” head coach Ainslee Lamb commented. “Her play and impact on the team consistently improved this season, reaching an elite level entering the ACC Tournament. I am proud of her accomplishments and accolades to date, but even more excited for the fantastic future for Nicole at BC and in the US program.”
Prior to the start of the tournament, Schuster earned All-ACC accolades for her performance during the regular season. The BC midfielder carried those efforts into the conference tournament where the Doylestown, Pa. native and the rest of the Eagles’ squad turned in a strong showing despite dropping a 4-3 heartbreaker to Wake Forest in their quarterfinal matchup.
Schuster started all 19 games for the Eagles in 2011, making significant contributions to the team on both sides of the ball. She tallied one goal and three assists for five total points on the season.
The 5-foot-3 mid, who was named to the USA U21 squad last summer, will spend time working with the national program during the collegiate offseason before hitting the field for BC as a junior in 2012. As a member of Team USA’s U21 team, Schuster will have the opportunity to participate in a training camp in Chula Vista, Calif. early next year followed by an international tour next spring.
