Sept. 13, 2012
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The 18th-ranked Boston College field hockey team travels to College Park, Md., to take on fourth-ranked Maryland, the two-time defending National Champions, in its first Atlantic Coast Conference matchup of 2012.
The Eagles (4-2) will play the Terrapins (5-1) on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at Maryland's Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Maryland has won every meeting between the two squads, going 9-0 in the all-time series. Last season, BC took the Terps to overtime in Newton, but lost in a 4-3 decision. BC is 3-0 on the road this season.
The Maroon and Gold is led by junior Virgynia Muma, who has six points on three goals, including two gamewinners. The team does produce a balanced attack, as nine different players have scored for the Eagles this year. Freshman Leah Settipane is the team's only goalkeeper and has already tallied three shutouts in her young career. She registered a season-high 10 saves in the 2-0 win against Quinnipiac on Aug. 31.
On Sunday, the Eagles will take on James Madison (3-2) at 1 p.m. on Maryland's field. JMU leads the all-time series against BC, 5-0-1, but the two teams have not met since 2002, when the Dukes took a 2-1 decision. The Eagles are 1-0 on neutral territory this season, taking a 1-0 win over Michigan State.
