Field Hockey Capitalizes on Preseason Scrimmages
Aug. 25, 2014
Newton, Mass.- Boston College field hockey played two preseason scrimmages in preparation for the 2014 season. BC lost to Boston University, 1-0, at Nickerson Field Saturday and won against UMass Lowell, 7-2, at Newton Field Hockey Complex on Sunday.
"It's great to be in a scrimmage weekend and play against other programs so we can try some things that we've been working on. No matter how much we do tactics in a classroom, the best way to learn is on the field," said head coach Ainslee Lamb. "That was our goal this weekend to try some different tactics with some different personel and we definitely achieved it with these two games.
"It's great to play UMass Lowell. They've made a great transition to Division I. I'm very impressed with where they are after two years in DI. BU is great regional competition. We can go and have a high level of competition but at the same time knowing that the interest of both teams are first and foremost for us," Lamb said.
Against the River Hawks, sophomore forward Eryn McCoy netted two goals in the first half. Romée Stiekema added a goal on a rebound from junior AshLeigh Sebia to increase the Eagles' lead to 3-0. Junior goalie Leah Settipane recorded a shutout in the first half.
In the second half, four Eagle goals were netted by Jordyn Hamilton, Kelcie Hromisin, returning All-American Emma Plasteras, and Eryn McCoy scored on a stroke to complete a hat trick. UMass Lowell got on the board in the second half off of a corner attempt and an empty netter as the Eagles subbed in a kick back.
