Field Hockey Welcomes Back Alumni
May 8, 2014
Newton, Mass. - The Boston College field hockey team hosted an alumni game on Sunday, May 4 at the Newton Campus Field Hockey Complex. Former Eagles reunited to play together again and then celebrated with a tailgate afterward.
"It was a great day for Boston College field hockey," head coach Ainslee Lamb said. "It was a day to celebrate the program, reunite with friend and connect the past and present players. As a staff, we enjoyed seeing our current players learn from and interact with the former players."
"The field hockey stick was like a magic wand that made the 34 years disappear since I had last seen my field hockey teammates Lizanne [Barrone] and Julie [Ricciardi]. We hugged; we laughed; we reminisced. The alumni game was an incredible experience," former Eagle Yolanda Nunley (1978-80) said. "Thank you to Ainslee for giving me a chance not only to reconnect with my past but also to meet the current Eagles, a fine group of young women. I can take great pride in being a part of the legacy that is the Boston College field hockey team."
The current team met the former players. Lynn Varsell '83 brought her stick and kilt from her playing days, which amazed many of the current players.
"The experience was amazingly positive. I was happy to meet other alums for the first time, as well as the current players. The cohesiveness of the team is obvious from just our brief encounter," said Lisa Stone (1988-91). Families were in attendance and many former players' children played on the turf after the game. All attendees received a BCFH shirt to wear in support of the team after the event.
