Boston College Wins BIG EAST Championship
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Tournament Most Outstanding Player Andrea Durko (Briarcliff, N.Y.) scored the eventual game-winning goal 30 seconds into the second half to lead Boston College to a 2-0 victory over the University of Connecticut in the 1997 BIG EAST Championship Game at Alumni Stadium.
With the victory, the Eagles earned their second BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship and an automatic berth to the 12-team NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championships. Boston College's first BIG EAST Championship occurred back in 1994.
Junior sweeper Joy Ramsbotham (Melvin Village, N.H.), the 1997 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, added an insurance goal off a penalty corner with 3:39 left in the game.
Freshman goalkeeper Stacy Chicaski (Northampton, Mass.) made five saves for the Eagles, while sophomore Danielle Vile (Tabernacle, N.J.) stopped nine for the Huskies (15-6).
