Boston College Eliminated from NCAA Playoffs
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Amy MacFarlane scored her second goal of the game with 14:12 remaining to lift Princeton (15-3) to a 3-2 victory over Boston College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Astroturf Facility. Down 2-1 at the half, BC tied the score with 17:41 left to go on a goal by freshman Jennifer Hall (Brewster, N.Y.).
Princeton will face Maryland (18-3) in the quarterfinals on Sunday, November 16 at 2 p.m. Boston College, the 1997 BIG EAST Champion, completes its season with a 15-7 record. The 15 victories ties a school record.
BC drew first blood when Anne Marie Ambros (Bridgeton, N.J.) scored her first goal of the season with 19:42 into the contest. However, McFarlene got the Tigers on the board just 56 seconds later. Kristy Hale's goal with 49 seconds left in the first half gave Princeton the advantage at halftime.
Despite the loss, two Boston College seniors completed fine careers. Andrea Durko (Briarcliff, N.Y.) and Marion Fitzgerald (Little Silver, N.J.) members of four consecutive winning teams and two BIG EAST Championship squads (1994 and 1997).
